Prepaid Plan
Effective January 1, 2017, contributions to Massachusetts 529 plans of up to $1,000 per year by an individual, and up to $2,000 per year by a married couple filing jointly, are deductible in computing Massachusetts taxable income.
Massachusetts has two programs available: the U.Fund College Investing Plan, a direct-sold 529 college savings plan managed by Fidelity Investments using Fidelity mutual funds, and the U.Plan Prepaid Tuition Program, offered by MEFA.
"Do-it-yourself" type plans in which the saver enrolls and sets up the initial investment. Fortunately most 529 plans make this simple! You'll pay no sales charges beyond fund and administrative fees.
